With the purpose of financing, constructing, maintaining, and managing the High Speed Rail Corridor in India, National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) was established on February 12, 2016, in accordance with the Companies Act, 2013. The Company has been designed as a "Special Purpose Vehicle" in the joint sector with equity involvement from the Central Government through the Ministry of Railways and two State Governments, namely the Governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra. <br/> In addition to being a technological marvel, the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project would provide numerous quantifiable benefits, including reduced travel times, lower operating costs for vehicles, lower pollution, the creation of jobs, fewer accidents and improved safety, and the substitution of imported fuel for domestic fuel. The project would also improve the infrastructure and contribute to economic expansion. HSR would be an integrated system that had all of its numerous parts—hardware, software, human-ware, and their interfaces—optimized overall.
