The Indian Air Force holds the AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) Exam twice a year to select applicants for the Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Flying Branch and the Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches. Additionally, the IAF seeks applicants for the Meteorological Entry and NCC Special Entry Scheme (Flying Branch) PC/SSC grants. It is one of the most sought-after positions in the Indian Air Force and the aspirational employment of millions of Indians. In the month of May 2023, the Indian Air Force published the AFCAT 2 2023 Notification. Application Fees:
  • For AFCAT entry: Rs. 250/-
  • There is no fee for the NCC special admission and meteorology.

  • Age Limit:
  • Flying Branch : Born between 02 July 2000 and 01 July 2004 (both dates inclusive), or 20 to 24 years old as of 1 July 2024. The maximum age for applicants who already possess a Commercial Pilot License from the DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years, or for those who were born between 02 July 1998 and 01 July 2004 (both dates inclusive).
  • Ground Duty (Technical/ Non-Technical) Branches : 20 to 26 years old as of July 1, 2024, or born between July 2, 1998, and July 1, 2004, inclusively.

  • Qualifications:
  • Ground Duty Technical Branch : Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) - A four year degree in graduation/integrated or post-graduation in the field of engineering and technology from a recognized university, as well as a minimum of 50% in math and physics combined at the 10+2 level.
  • Ground Duty Technical Branch : Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) - A four year degree in graduation/integrated or post-graduation in the field of engineering and technology from a recognized university, as well as a minimum of 50% in math and physics combined at the 10+2 level.
  • Gound Duty (Non - Technical Branches) : Adminstration - A three-year graduate degree from an accredited university with a minimum grade point average of 60% OR passing grades in sections A and B of the examination.
  • Gound Duty (Non - Technical Branches) : Weapon System Branch - Must have obtained a passing grade in math and physics in the 10+2 program.
